Encourage your cadet to bring a camera and/or camcorder or a cell phone that does both!

November: Veterans' Day Parade. Cadets need to be at school at 8:00 am to catch the bus. Family members travel separately and can watch the cadets march and perform from the sidewalks of the streets. The starting point is 4th & Gass Streets, beginning at 10:00 am. The parade should end around noon on 4th and Ogden S. Called the biggest Veterans Day Parade west of the Mississippi, the cadets will be honoring those who have fought and served in the military. Cadets need to turn in their permission slip to be elegible to attend. Bus departs at 8:00 am and returns about 1:00 pm.
November: Happy Thanksgiving! We're THANKFUL for our awesome cadets at Palo Verde and for those who serve in the military, protecting this great country!
December: Commander's Call - This event is a pretty big deal for the kids. Be seated on the gym bleachers by 11:20 am and bring something cozy to sit on because this fun ceremony takes about 3 hours! It's supposed to end by 2:15. You'll get to watch your cadet's flight compete against all of
the others, as well as hear speeches, and see your son or daughter in individual contests. School
spirit is high and there is a lot of cheering and hugging! Bring your cameras (with zoom lens), camcorders, and maybe even some binoculars.
December : Food Drive - Bring non-perishable food items that we'll donate to hungry families in Las Vegas.
December - January: Winter Break
January: No school. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. AFJROTC will be taking 3 bus-loads full of students to march in the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade downtown. The parade starts at 10:00 am and will follow the route down 4th Street between Charleston and Fremont.
January: Semester finals begin. Promotions will be held at the end of the semester. To get promoted, cadets must pass ALL of their classes. All 3rd year cadets wishing to come back next year as a 4th year staff need to submit a form.

February : Dining In for Juniors and Seniors during lunch time. Permission slip required. No money due.

February : Color guard will conduct the Annual Flag Retirement Ceremony at dusk where the cadets will burn flags that are no longer serviceable. This is a very moving and patriotic ceremony and all are welcome to attend. If you're involved with Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, or other groups who might be interested in watching this ceremony, feel free to invite them. It's held outside in the open quad area at dusk. There is no set time because they try to time it with dusk, but if you arrive at 5:00 that should work. If anyone has any American flags they need retired, they can drop them off at the AFJROTC office (room 408).
February: No school. President's Day.
February : No school. Staff Development Day.
March or April: Spring Break. YAY!!
April Military Ball at a local hotel from 6:00 pm until 10:00 pm. Always one of the highlights of the ROTC year! Cadets can purchase tickets at school. This includes 4 hours of dancing, fun memories and lots of free food. Parents, please pick up your cadets promptly at 10PM because the leaders can't go home until all of our cadets have left. You may want to bring extra money to take a fun group photo with the professional photographer. Cadets do NOT need dates to attend.
April: All- Air Force CCSD JROTC Drill Meet. This is a really cool event to watch.
Palo will be competing against all of the other AFJROTC units from all over the valley. Be sure to check the daily
schedule for events so you don't miss your favorite cadet perform. The schedule is an estimation of when certain
competitions begin, so get there a bit earlier to ensure you don't miss what you want to see. It's a long day outside,
but you can just swing by for the parts you want to watch. School spirit is high and the kids love it. Younger siblings will be
very impressed!
April: Summer Leadership School forms are due (2nd Year Cadets only).
April Awards banquet tickets go on sale.
May: Awards Parade on Palo Verde football field (7:00 pm - 8:00 pm) This is a very special evening for the whole family to
enjoy! Lots of pomp and circumstance and fun! Special awards will be given, so bring your camera. Families will sit up
in the stands, so you might want to bring your binoculars in order to see your favorite cadet's face and a seat cushion for
those hard bleachers! Cadets need to be in place by 6:30 pm. Your cadet will want to stay after the parade because
the students want to dance and party on the field with their friends for another hour or so.
May: Awards Banquet in the school cafeteria (6:15 pm - 9:30 pm) This is a very special evening for the cadets. Parents should
attend in nice attire and bring their cameras and camcorders! It's a really long evening, so little children may get bored. The
fun event includes a yummy dinner, tons of awards, fun videos, inspiring speeches, announcements of next year's leadership
positions, and parents bursting with pride. The Armed Drill Team and Unarmed Drill team perform outside the cafeteria in the
